Miley Cyrus just won’t stop crushing labels and and we love it! In an interview with the Associated Press, the 22-year-old pop star revealed that not all of her relationships have been “straight” or “heterosexual” ones. Although she didn’t go into more detail about her sexual orientation (and doesn’t explicitly label herself bisexual, or anything else), it’s interesting to hear Miley’s admittance since her public dating past has been known until now to be solely heterosexual.
According to People magazine, Miley recently split from Patrick Schwarzenegger after several months of dating. Before that, she was in a long-term relationship with Liam Hemsworth (they were even engaged!). Even earlier than that, she dated Nick Jonas during their fame-filled, teenage years.
Although Miley’s dating history has appeared in the tabloids to be purely straight, she has shown tons of support to the LGBT community. She just launched the Happy Hippie Foundation, whose mission is to “rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations.” Miley also called Bruce Jenner “my hero” for bravely coming out as transgender, and famously had a homeless man accept her Video of the Year trophy at the 2014 Video Music Awards.
Her use of celebrity status to promote her opinions is a smart move for the singer. She confessed to the AP:
“When you have all eyes on you, what are you saying? And that’s what I had to ask myself a lot. It’s like, I know you’re going to look at me more if my (breasts) are out, so look at me. And then I’m going to tell you about my foundation for an hour and totally hustle you.”
To that we say, hustle away, Miley. You just keep being you.
