Helen Mirren has an incredible outlook on beauty and aging. And as if that weren’t enough to make us idolize her, her attitude about sex has pretty much sealed the deal.
In an interview for U.K.-based Event magazine published on the Daily Mail, Mirren confesses that she didn’t truly find sexual fulfillment until her 60s. She tells the magazine that sex was “paranoid and empty” in her youth, and now is “great, just wonderful.” So wonderful that she’s reportedly said she sets her alarm an extra hour early so she can fit in some morning lovemaking with husband Taylor Hackford, whom she’s been married to since 1997.
While the L’Oréal Paris UK ambassador is committed to fitting in sexy time into her daily life, on-screen nudity and sex wasn’t really her cup of tea. “It was mortifying, all that nudity and sex,” she said of her role in 1989’s The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And Her Lover. She admitted to starting each morning with a “breakfast” of champagne to calm her nerves and make filming all the nudity and sex scenes easier.
Not only do we aspire to look like Dame Helen when we’re 69, but we also hope our sex lives are just as fulfilling. Now we have hope that it’s totally possible!
