Digestion is the process by which food is broken down, allowing nutrients to be absorbed and used by cells. Food travels from the mouth to the stomach, where it is mixed with acids and enzymes, and then to the small intestine where most digestion and absorption of nutrients occurs. If we consume too much of particular nutritients, such as fats, the process can become disrupted causing fatty liver disease or irritable bowel syndrome. Watch this video to follow food as it travels from your mouth through the rest of your body!
