When we’re riding the train or sitting in a waiting room, we usually keep to ourselves, but a recent study suggests that chatting up the people around us will make all our in-between times more pleasant. Researchers had participants talk to a stranger on a train and found that those people had a more enjoyable ride than those who talked to no one, or just behaved as normal. Whether it’s an extra back and forth with your barista or a greeting in the elevator, try striking up a convo with someone new and see if it doesn’t make you feel just a little bit better.
