Meeting your significant other’s parents can be incredibly nerve-wracking, but winning their approval can leave you searching frantically for your Xanax prescription. Well, a recent survey may have narrowed down the best tactic for winning over your in-laws.
After surveying 738 Greek-Cypriots, they found 7 different manipulation tactics used in trying to gain approval. They labelled the most popular tactic “I am right for your child,” in which the significant other demonstrates how good they are for their child. In second place was the “I don’t deserve this!” tactic, in which the significant other shows the parents that he or she doesn’t deserve their rejection. The verdict: demonstrating the ways you’re perfect for their baby is the best way to go. Interestingly, the study also found that mothers tend to be more easily swayed by these methods than fathers.
