Summer is basically here, which means shorter dresses and higher heels (woo hoo!). Heels make us look and feel super sexy, but their effect on our feet can be, eh, not so cute. From all those crazy and complicated straps to attempts at pulling a Cinderella with a killer pair (that only fits well when you’re standing still), all that rubbing can lead to some nasty buildup. Yep, calluses. Fortunately, they’re super easy to nix with consistent exfoliation. Start with a soak. “Foot soaks can be beneficial for relieving stress, reducing aches and softening skin,” says Dr. Doris Day, a dermatologist. Soak feet in warm water, and add a teaspoon of Epsom salts for better results. After soaking (or during/after a shower) massage a foot scrub onto the calloused area to gently slough off dead skin. For more stubborn calluses, try using a foot file or pumice brush every other day. Just remember to do this after a soak in the tub, as removing calluses when your skin is dry is too abrasive and can cause damage.
