You know that internal “device” people use to gauge a person’s sexual preference? Science says it’s completely out of whack. Turns out having a gaydar is nothing more than having an impressive ability to gender stereotype. In a new study, researchers evaluated the responses of two groups; one group was told gaydar is real, the other that it is a fabrication. The group that was told gaydar is real bought their pre-existing stereotypes and were more likely to assume men were gay based on facts about them like “he likes shopping.” Proving that the only way to really know someone is to get to know them.
