Our weight is tied to what we eat, of course, but new research suggests it’s tied to when we eat, too. A study of mice found that when a gene that helps regulate their internal clocks was removed, they gained weight—even though they were eating the same number of calories!
More research has to be done in humans, but there’s growing evidence that the timing of our meals is important. Night shift workers and patients with sleep disorders, for example, are more prone to obesity. So cut out that nighttime snack!
