Sexual and violent media gets a lot of flak for its negative effect on viewers, but new research shows it’s not the violent content itself that’s problematic: it’s the frequent portrayal of women as subservient. Media with a strong female character is less likely to negatively affect both male and female viewers.
We need to see more women kicking butt onscreen—more Katniss Everdeens. Go get ‘em, gals!
