If you can’t help yourself from squirming around in your office chair throughout the day, your inability to stay put may actually be helping your health. A new study from the American Journal of Preventive Medicine concluded that fidgeting may actually counter the negative impact that long amounts of sitting have on one’s health!
They evaluated the amount of time (and wiggling around) that participants did over the course of 12 years. They found that the participants who had the lowest movement while sitting had a 30% higher mortality risk than people who just couldn’t sit still! This indicates that fidgeting may help stave off all mortality-causing risks that come from extended sitting.
