A new study has some amazing news about our favorite fat (the good kind!), avocado. Researchers at Penn State University show that an avocado a day lowers bad cholesterol. After five weeks on a controlled diet, all participants experienced a reduction in LDL (bad cholesterol) and total cholesterol, but the diet that incorporated one Hass avocado every day lowered LDL levels even more than the others — by 13.5 mg/dL, versus 8.3 mg/dL and 7.4 mg/dL on the other diets. Good news for guac fans – just make sure to get low-sodium chips.
