Everyone has a number. Maybe it’s zero sexual partners, maybe it’s twenty. But really, what is it? Just kidding, you don’t have to tell me, but you should tell LloydsPharmacy’s Online Doctor Service, who have created a Sex Degrees of Separation sex calculator to figure out how many indirect sexual partners we’ve all had. The average Brit, for example, has slept with 3,917,918 people – if you count the exponential increase via partners’ partners’ partners.
The calculator was created to remind people of the very real risk of STI exposure. But seeing a number in the millions flash on the screen does more than just encourage people to make a regular check-up appointment. It feels a little shamey to tell people that if they’ve slept with four people, they’ve been exposed to “nearly 2 million sexual partners.” You know the drill: As long as you and your partner are honest about your history, it’s all going to work out just fine. Or you can just get Seamless and watch that 2011 Anna Faris movie “What’s Your Number?” Spoiler Alert: She ends up happy in the end.
