Let’s face it: we all have a love-hate relationship with being single. Some days you wake up feeling on top of the world, confident in yourself, and happy with being alone. But other days you wake up feeling lonely, confused, and sad about not having a significant other. Both emotions are normal! But sometimes, we just need someone to tell us that being single isn’t such a bad thing. Being single is empowering and important. So if it’s one of those days where you just can’t help but feel lonely, these are eight reasons why being single is fantastic:
You can focus on yourself
When you’re dating someone, you will inevitably put a lot of your time and energy on them. That means less time to focus on yourself and your personal goals. But being single means you can really work on yourself without anyone coming in between.
You can do what you want
Yes, being single means that your plans are ENTIRELY up to you. How good does that sound?! That means you can choose exactly where you want to eat, where you want to travel, and pretty much everything else. Sure, you’ll still have to compromise plans with friends and family, but for the most part- you can do what you want!
You become independent
I can’t stress this enough: learning how to be independent will help you so much in the long run. Someone who jumps from relationship to relationship will never have the opportunity to learn how to be alone and live independently. There will inevitably come a time in everyone’s life when they have to be alone, and if you’ve never been single, you’ll have no clue how to deal with that.
Life is way less stressful
Being in a relationship not only means having to focus part of yourself on someone else, but it also means having to deal with petty arguments. Because let’s face it, no relationship is perfect, and every couple fights here and there. But when you’re single, you never have to deal with those stressful fights.
You can spend more time with your friends
Another sad part of being in a relationship is spending less time with your friends! So at least being single means tons of girls nights (both in & out) and growing your friendships. Because at the end of the day, you need a support system of friends who have your back.
You can discover new interests
All the time you’re spending alone means more time dedicated to discovering who you are. You can find new interests and explore parts of yourself that you didn’t even know existed. Maybe being single will lead you to find your true passions!
You get to date
Being in a relationship means having to go on dates with the same person every time. But, being single means getting to explore the dating field. And which one of those sounds more fun? Take the opportunity of being single as a way to meet new people, go on dates, and figure out precisely what you are looking for in a relationship.
You’re likely to get more fit
For some reason, when you’re in a relationship, you just tend to eat more and workout less. But if you’ve always been trying to get on that fitness grind, being single is the perfect opportunity. Use all that time you have alone to get in shape and fall in love with fitness!
