Happy #BumpDay! Today, July 22nd, is officially deemed “Bump Day,” a day dedicated to raising awareness regarding healthy moms and healthy pregnancies. Since maternal health and newborn health are undeniably linked, it’s important to keep all the mommys-to-be healthy and happy during their trimesters.
Heidi Murkoff, author of the “What to Expect” series, created the day with help from WhatToExpect.com, and is encouraging women to share their baby bumps on social media to “celebrate the sisterhood of motherhood” and to raise awareness about the challenges that mothers face when trying to give their babies the best start possible, and what the best solutions are to overcome those challenges are.
According to the Huffington Post, “Each day around the world, about 800 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth, and each year, 1 million babies die within the first day of their life.” These numbers are absolutely astonishing and horrific, especially because most maternal deaths are deemed preventable if proper prenatal care had been accessible along with skilled care during childbirth.
So, post your #BumpDay baby bump selfie on social media, past or present, using the hashtag so you can raise awareness for healthy pregnancies too! Dads can post their loved ones’ baby bumps, and children can post their mother’s baby bumps. The more bumps the merrier!
