Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, who designed gowns for four first ladies and countless A-list actresses, died on Monday at his home in Connecticut. He was 82.
Mr. de la Renta had been fighting cancer for close to eight years, a battle that did not stop him from producing the high fashion gowns synonymous with his name. His most recent well-known work includes the ivory tulle gown worn by Amal Alamuddin at her wedding to George Clooney.
His decades-long career included dressing actresses such as Amy Adams, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Penelope Cruz. De la Renta was known for his close bonds with his clients, many such as Taylor Swift who are publicly mourning the loss of a great artist. De la Renta’s spirit will live on with his beautiful creations, “The qualities I admire most in women are confidence and kindness.”
