Alyssa Milano’s trip through Heathrow Airport took a negative turn yesterday when the airport confiscated 10 ounces of her breast milk. The actress, who has been a vocal public supporter of breastfeeding in the past, is the mother of a seven-month-old girl, who was not with her while she was traveling (hence Milano’s need to pump her milk). She shared the story of having her baby’s milk confiscated with her 2.81 million followers on Twitter.
(1 of 2) @HeathrowAirport just took my pumped breast milk away. 10 ounces. Gone. Not okay.

(2 of 2) They said they would let the pumped milk through if I had the baby with me. Why would I need to pump if I had the baby with me????

.@HeathrowAirport I was told I would be fine if the baby was with me. Plus, it was less than 5 ounces per container. Why is my shampoo okay?

A social media representative for Heathrow replied on Twitter to explain that the rules are different if a baby isn’t present.
@Alyssa_Milano Hi Alyssa. Unfortunately, without a baby present, the government requires all liquids in carry-ons to follow the 100ml rule.

Milano responded, “.@HeathrowAirport I would have happily spread milk in different containers (which I travel with) to comply to those liquid rules. Instead, milk was taken away with no discussion. Shampoo, lotions, etcetera were simply tested and handed back with no issue. Makes no sense at all.” She persists that the rules “make no sense.”
PS. Another reason it makes no sense – when I got past security it was time to pump again so… I did carry on 5 ounces of breast milk.
