You probably haven’t heard the name “Pedialyte” since childhood, when your parents fed you the sweet-tasting oral electrolyte solution when you were sick. But it’s not just barfing toddlers that Pedialyte is going after with their advertising: the company debuted a new campaign called #seethelyte, targeting adults looking for a morning-after hangover cure or to prevent one from happening in the first place. Isn’t adulthood fun?
The Wall Street Journal reports that the company’s new strategy came about after seeing “adults” on college campuses using the drink — which replaces fluids with a mix of minerals and sugar — as a hangover remedy on social media. To keep the trend going, the brand will give away free samples at music festivals and sporting events across the country; it’s also partnering with celebs like Pharrell and Miley Cyrus to spread the good word. Carson Daly also seems to be getting in on the Pedialyte money truck – or he’s just an enthusiastic fan.

If you can forget the fact you’re taking a product that small children normally take after a bout of diarrhea, it is, in fact, a surprisingly good hangover remedy — especially when compared to other popular cures like Gatorade. New York Mag reports that for 100 calories, one bottle of Pedialyte at 33.8 ounces has 1,035 milligrams of sodium and 780 milligrams of potassium. That sodium and potassium will help your dehydrated, regretful body absorb fluids. Gatorade, on the other hand, clocks in at 240 calories with 420 milligrams of sodium and 140 milligrams of potassium. I guess we’ll have to put it to the test this weekend!
