Scotland’s oldest woman turned 109 on January 2 and the adorable Jessie Gallan shared some old-fashioned charm in an interview with the UK’s Daily Mail. She left home at 13 to work as a milkmaid (!), supporting herself milking cows and as a farm kitchen helper. She has one simple secret for healthy living:”My secret to long life has been staying away from men. They’re just more trouble than they’re worth.”
Avoid men and eat plenty of porridge for a long life, says Jessie, 109: Scotland’s oldest woman reveals her secrets pic.twitter.com/p91b3XrA03— Pippa Ettore (@pettore) January 16, 2015
It sounds like she had a stress-free lifestyle regarding both relationships and work. Gallan said, “I always had good jobs with very nice people.”The centenarian keeps busy. According to Jessie’s caretaker, the spritely old lady still “takes part in the group activities … goes to all the concerts and enjoys her church on a Sunday.” All times during which a healthy 109-year-old woman could find a man! But Gallan has no plans to settle down. She reiterated, “I also made sure that I got plenty of exercise, eat a nice warm bowl of porridge every morning and have never gotten married.” The takeaway is clear: men’ll kill you.
