Periods can be stressful and inconvenient at the best of times, but what about when you want to get a workout in? There’s no reason you can’t still attend your gym or regular fitness class when it’s your time of the month. You just need to find the best period control product for you.

Tampons?

Tampons aren’t for everyone. Some people may find them awkward or tricky to put in place. If they’re not inserted correctly, they can feel a little uncomfortable, meaning they aren’t the best choice for the gym if you don’t feel confident enough to apply them. If, however, you use tampons regularly, you may find they are the best option for your workout. It’s more hygienic compared to sanitary pads, particularly if you will be doing an intense or long session resulting in plenty of sweat.

Sanitary Pads?

Sanitary pads can be useful for a shorter gym session and if you know you don’t have a heavy flow or require regular changes. They are comfortable and easy to use, plus they’re easy to change even when you’re not at home. If you get heavy bleeding, then a pad might not be the best option for the gym, as it won’t feel the cleanest. You may feel more conscious of your bleeding as you will be able to feel it during your workout.

Menstrual Cups?

Menstrual cups are a newer alternative to traditional sanitary products such as pads or tampons. They’re pretty controversial, but they’re super eco-friendly and are an excellent long-term solution to control your menstrual bleeding. They’re safe to use, reusable, and also comfortable. They can also offer a lot of control, meaning they’re also a good option for heavier bleeders. Once you’ve mastered putting one in and changing it, they’re definitely a great all-around period control choice for the gym. This is the winner in our books!
