Cardio can be an absolute nightmare. Running on the treadmill can feel tedious and annoying. And although cardio is a great way to warm up before a workout and get your blood flowing, no one loves cardio. But, cardio doesn’t have to be just going on the elliptical or running on the treadmill. An excellent form of cardio and way to warm up before working out is jumping rope.
We used to jump rope on the playground as children, but now jumping rope can be incorporated into the gym. Jumping rope is an excellent way to work out your entire body. It warms your body up for efficient movements, such as running.
There are two ways you can jump rope. One way is like the way we did it when we were kids- swinging your arms, jumping off the ground, alternating from one foot to the other. The other way is more advanced and how jumping rope is more often used in the gym. When you jump up on one foot, and your knee is raised, kick your leg out and bring it back in. Alternate between both legs. That way is harder on your muscles and will result in a more intense and strenuous workout.
Jumping rope is also a great warm-up before going on a run. Jumping rope uses all the same muscles you use when you run- moving your knees, controlling your core, and pumping your arms. Jumping can increase your flexibility and warm up your quads and calves.
It’s essential to watch your posture when you jump rope so you don’t injure yourself and you get the most out of your workout. Keep your spine straight, and your shoulders relaxed.
Before you know it, you’ll start needing a quick jump rope every time you hit the gym!
