There’s a new fitness trend buzzing in the celebrity space that promises to help you lose weight and build muscle faster. It started making waves recently when Ashley Graham posted a picture of herself on Instagram. She and other celebs hooked up to a bunch of wires in a new trend called the electric muscle stimulation (EMS) training.
Basically, it works by sending an electric current to your muscles through wires in order to trigger involuntary muscle twitches. In the past, this technique was used to treat injuries as part of physical therapy treatment. But after further research, experts see that this technique can burn 600 calories in under 30 minutes while also building up muscles too.
Other celebs we’ve seen do this include Alessadra Ambrosio, 2Chainz and Luann de Lesseps.
Is it a good idea for anyone to try?
Not entirely.
The electrodes can be hazardous to people who have a pacemaker, defilbirator, or metal implants. It should also not be used on certain parts of the body like the neck, head, chest, or eyes.
If you’re looking to give it shot, keep your eyes peeled. There are studios for this kind of training popping up everywhere across the country. Keep in mind it isn’t cheap. Sessions can go for a smooth $250 easy.
