Eyes tend to be crinkly on top (especially if you love to laugh like I do!) so applying liner along the top lid and getting somewhat of a straight-ish line can be difficult.
When you want to define your eyes, the simplest, no-fail way is to push the color into your lash roots and avoid a traditional “line” completely. Here’s how you can get enhanced eyes with just a little smooshing!
Prep:
Grab a black long-wear pencil with a slightly dull tip for comfort. If your pencil is freshly sharpened, scribble a little on the back of your hand to soften it just a touch. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Pencil in Jet, $24, is my current favorite because it goes on smooth like butter at first but stays for the long-haul.
Step One: Apply Like a Pro
Looking downward, lift your top lid with one hand and push the pencil tip between your lash roots and in your upper water line. Now, in tiny strokes, fill the entire area so you see no skintone.
Step Two: Smoosh!
Squish your eyes tightly to smoosh the color into your roots further and transfer just a trace of the color onto your lower waterlines. Fill in any gaps. When you open your eyes, notice how rich and full your lash line looks compared to your other bare eye. Repeat on the other eye, and squish eyes tightly.
Step Three: Clean Up
Use a cotton swab to remove any smeary stuff below the eyes and even out the color along the waterline area.
Finish:
Curl your lashes and apply waterproof mascara—try classic L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Mascara. Bam! Barely noticeable eye enhancement.
