One of the best things about summer — other than warm weather, light and breathable clothing, and rooftop happy hours — is finally switching out all our dark makeup for brighter, sunnier shades.

First step? Finding the perfect fuchsia lipstick. “Fuchsia IS spring/summer,” said Stephen Dimmick, makeup artist and founder of lipstick brand GlossiGirl. “It’s the flowers in May. It’s the flush of cheeks on bright summer days. It’s bold and unstoppably fun!” And it works on so many different skintones.

“My favorite way to wear fuchsia is keeping the rest of the face to a bare minimum — simply apply a high SPF sunscreen, followed by a tinted moisturizer, and curl the lashes with a lick of mascara,” Dimmick suggested. Then, choose a highly pigmented stick or gloss. “This not only gives you lasting power, but it also opens up your options,” he added. Play around with your products: Try out in-your-face, full-lip color, or go for a more subtle stained look by applying and then blotting off the excess pigment.
