Selena Gomez’s release of her new song “Lose You To Love Me” has made everyone who listens to it fall in love. The song begged us to want to know the answer to if the song is actually about Justin Bieber (which we’ve decided it definitely is).
Before Selena released the song, she had to have her best friend Taylor Swift have a listen. She discussed Taylor’s early hearing a few days ago on her appearance at Zane Lowe’s Apple Beat 1 radio show. We just love a good Selena and Taylor moment.
“I played her the song, and I played it with her mom and dad, and I showed her the video, and her mom and Taylor started crying,” Selena said about the encounter. “And it wasn’t because the song was emotional. It was just because the first thing they said to me was, ‘We’re so happy that you’re here. After seeing all of that, this is such a cool moment.’ And that’s a huge thing for me.”
So basically, Selena got the approval of Taylor Swift AND her mom, so she already knew the song was going to be a hit.
The lyrics of the song make it pretty clear that it’s about Selena and Justin’s breakup and his marriage to Hailey Bieber shortly after. But Taylor stuck by Selena’s side through it all.
“I’m so proud of her. She’s been through so much. I’ve watched so much happen in her life and had a front-row seat to so much, and I’m so proud of her.” Taylor said about Selena. “She is such a revelation because now she’s making her best stuff. I am 100 percent convinced this is the best thing she’s done so far.”
Selena has a support system like none other and friends who support her through thick and thin.
“She was frustrated when I was frustrated; she was sad when I was sad. But more than anything, my friends stood by my side,” Selena said. “I think they visibly saw me in so much pain. And they didn’t want it for me. But . . . they never stopped loving me.”
We can only wish good things for Selena to come. She deserves as much.
