Kim Kardashian is never slow to keep up with the ever-changing trends in society. Between her makeup and fragrance lines, Kim Kardashian never fails to prove successful in just about everything she does. Her most recent project is a shapewear line, called Kimono Collection initially, that is designed for everybody and is size inclusive. However, after just a week of releasing her collection, Kim received backlash for the name of her line. Critics said that the name, Kimono, was appropriating Japanese culture.
After initially receiving backlash for the name, Kim responded to in a statement to The New York Times that the name was a “nod to the beauty and detail” that goes into the work of a kimono. She continued the response by adding, “I understand and have deep respect for the significance of the kimono in Japanese culture. My solutionwear brand is built with inclusivity and diversity at its core, and I’m incredibly proud of what’s to come.” She initially said she had no plans to change the name of the brand and was going to stick confidently to the original collection title.
However, Kim has had a change of heart in the time since then and made the formal decision to change the brand name in the wake of criticism and backlash. Although Kim leaves us patiently waiting to hear the reveal of the collections new name, she officially shared her decision through an Instagram post.
“When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind,” Kim explains via Instagram. “My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name.”
