Where has Jessica Biel been the past year or so, you ask? Other than obviously raising her son Silas with hubby/heartthrob Justin Timberlake, the star has been working on a sex-ed video series for women. Yes, the former “7th Heaven” actress is working on a sexual education video.
The reason? After deciding to have a child, Biel felt she had so many unanswered questions about her own body that had never been a concern before. “I’ve been on the Pill for so long; how hard will it be to get pregnant?” she told Glamour, expressing her previous worries. “Suddenly I realized I really didn’t know what’s going on inside my own body.”
Can’t we all relate to this sentiment at one point or another? Jessica Biel, 33, eventually met Saundra Pelletier, the founder of the nonprofit health care organization WomanCare Global, and expressed her own ignorance and curiosity about the female reproductive system. Luckily, not only was she able to get some answers, she became inspired to take action for a cause that felt personal to her.
Pelletier ended up being the perfect woman for the job. After growing up in a rural area of Maine, she quickly became very aware of the lack of reproductive education that women receive. “Just 22 states require public schools to teach sex education,” exclaims Pelletier, “Jessica and I realized we can help change this.”
According to the WomanCare Global website, the videos will focus on eliminating misinformation, myths and misconceptions about women’s bodies, and will launch conversation regarding feminine health issues that were previously viewed as a taboo topic. “We want girls to know what their [body is going through] so they don’t feel scared or ashamed or gross, ” Biel continued in her Glamour interview.
Kudos to Jessica Biel and Saundra Pelletier for stepping up and creating dialogue around such vital women’s health issues. We can’t wait to see the videos!
