Fans are getting burned by Jessica Alba. Her Honest Company sunscreen may be ineffective, according to a report by NBC5 Chicago. Twitter users posting photos of their sunburns agree.
Honest’s website describes the sunscreen as “naturally derived” and “broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB)”. NBC5 found that the product was cut from 20% zinc oxide to its current level of 9.3%. Earlier this year, the 20% zinc oxide version of the sunscreen was given the highest rating in an Environmental Working Group review.
Since the FDA doesn’t regulate sunscreen, reading labels is especially important. Look for a bottle with at least 18 to 25 percent zinc oxide, and without oxybenzone or Vitamin A.

“We stand behind the safety and efficacy of this product,” the company said in a statement to TODAY. The sunscreen is currently “out of stock” on the company website.
