Camila Mendes got candid in an interview in the Woman’s Health October 2019 issue, where she discussed her past struggles with eating disorders and body dysmorphia. She said how although that was a struggle of her past, it took years of therapy to move past it.
“It’s something that’s still a curse to me. It’s not like that ever goes away,” she said during the interview. “Health is what’s important, not appearance. That mentality is what takes me out of the insecure, anxious thoughts.”
Being a Hollywood star and constantly in the spotlight, Camila revealed how important it is to do what is best for her mental and physical health. Staying active is important to her and she always makes a point to work out, even when she is busy filming Riverdale.
“I make choices that are good for me — and not just in my body — but for my soul, for my mind,” she stated during the interview. “And sometimes that’s eating ice cream because I want to eat ice cream.”
Camila emphasizes the importance of loving yourself and doing things because you want to do them, not because society makes you feel pressured to be a certain way. You should always put your mental and physical health first.
“Whenever I feel like I’m going through something difficult, I think about what I can do physically for myself,” Camila said. And that’s all we can ever try to do for ourselves.
