Testing knockoff beauty products revealed arsenic, human urine, cyanide and rat droppings in the counterfeit makeup. Eyeliner, mascara and lipsticks were all especially concerning, since it can be ingested and poses a health risk to any who uses them. Each chemical found has been known to cause severe allergic reactions, leading to skin irritation, swelling, and itchy rashes. Additionally, the UK’s Telegraph reports that at the sunscreens seized were found to have a lower SPF protection than they claimed.
Discounted higher-end beauty products might seem like a steal, but you might be purchasing low-grade products that are riddled with RAT POOP. We can’t believe this even needs to be said, but only buy your makeup at retailers that stock cosmetics reputably — no knockoffs. An oozing eye infection and red rashes aren’t worth saving a few bucks on your favorite makeup brands (priorities, people).
