The high cheek bones of a Swede, the rich Brazilian glow of a sun-kissed brow, the rosy cheeks of a Russian doll…we’ve all dreamt of having these flattering features, but did you know that they’re easily attainable for us all? Seriously, the right makeup is basically magic, and with the right spell (and a fabulous set of makeup brushes), you wield the power to transform yourself into, well, practically whichever enchanting version of yourself you’d like. Many YouTube beauty gurus, like Kandee Johnson and Marc Zapanta, have stunned us with their outstanding beauty skills and techniques, and this time is no different.
Wondering what’s the base technique used for practically every look right now? It’s contouring (shocker!). Who doesn’t love a little structure in their life (well, when it comes to your face at least), but sometimes all those lines need to be blurred a bit. One makeup artist is blowing our minds with her playful reminder that clowning around shouldn’t stop when you become an adult!

At first glimpse, the tutorial seems as though it’s prepping you for the next Comic-con; however, Vlogger Esther Romo (aka BellaDeLune) has another plan for the Sailor Moon-esque crescent moon above her brow and bright pink circles eclipsing her cheeks.
After Esther posted a brief snippet of her jaw-dropping, color-correcting, contour tutorial on her instagram, hoards of her followers began sending eager requests for the full-length video. In the tutorial, Esther’s playful personality comes through as she starts to skillfully blend away the clownish façade.

The talented beauty guru begins by explaining that her collaboration with fellow makeup artist, MakeupBy_Alo, was intended to send the message that, “even though you don’t need this amount of makeup or any makeup at all to feel or look beautiful, let’s face it, makeup is fun and it’s a way of expressing yourself!”
The spicy Latina artist’s tutorial is also in response to the makeup-shaming she’s endured due to the dramatic flare she uses. “I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been called a clown and many other names and been hated on because of the way that I use this art form,” she says, adding with a dramatic sweep of her brush, “And I just did this to show you what a real payaso looks like.”

If the final look is what a real payaso looks like, I want to be a part of this circus, every. damn. day. But I’m not the only one left awestruck by the beautifully crafted result. In fact, her YouTube tutorial now boasts over 80,000 views and has 12,000 followers, and these numbers are steadily climbing. “Seriously, never in a million years did I think this video would blow up like it did,” she humbly explains, followed by expressing a genuine gratitude for her followers’ support.
Makeup is a reflection of your emotions, your dreams, and your personality; it’s a platform for creativity and expression. So, next time you’re in a makeup rut or someone’s put you in a bad mood, use your face as a way to vent – seriously, take a cue from BellaDeLuna, draw a poop emoji and just blur that negativity away!
