Original Story, 4/21/15:
Kylie Jenner, the littlest Kardashian-Jenner sister, swears that she spends 40 minutes each day drawing on her famously voluptuous lips. Kylie’s teenage fans don’t have that kind of time – but they do want to look just like her. So they’ve taken matters into their own hands, according to Time, with the #KylieJennerChallenge. In order to get Kylie’s lips, teens put their lips into a shot glass or another small container and suck as hard as possible to get them to swell. Oh, to be young again!
The photos of teens with these dangerous DIY cosmetic procedures started collecting on social media on Sunday under the hashtag #KylieJennerChallenge. They posted photos with captions like “uhoh” and “don’t do it.”
Time reports that the “disastrous” procedure could result in bruising and even tearing of the lips. Dr. Dendy Engelman, a board certified dermatologic surgeon, says there is cause for alarm as the trend spreads. He told Seventeen.com, “Not only can significant pain, swelling, and bruising result from these suction techniques, but there is potential risk for scarring and permanent disfigurement with repeated attempts.”
If we can get fuller lips without injection, we can certainly do it without putting our faces in a shotglass, kids!
