Jin Soon Choi is no stranger to creating trends. The manicurist‘s Instagram reads like a Who’s Who of Fashion, snapped behind the scenes at top magazine shoots and runway shows. Each season she debuts a tightly edited quintet of colors, and this fall Choi’s collection, a collaboration with fashion designer Tess Giberson, is awash in contrasts, from icy silver to a coy peach to iridescent blue and dark matte, midnight purple (see the full collection here).
At the launch event, Choi taught us this really cool trick to jazzing up a simple manicure, that you can totally pull off yourself with help from a special tool that’s available at any drugstore. It’s a trick we love, because it’s high impact and eye-catching (we got so many compliments on our nails while wearing this!) yet sophisticated and, dare we say edgy, all at once. Here’s how to do it:
- Paint nails with a coat of clear base coat.
- Paint on two coats of Jin Soon Nail Polish in Nocturne, an almost black, charcoal grey with a slight shimmer.
- While the polish is still wet, take a dotting tool (Try the Sephora Collection Nail Art Set, $10), hold it tightly against your nail, and draw a zig zag (or for that matter, any sort of line) up the center of your nail.
- Let dry, and paint on a layer of clear top coat.
