Fresh is the makeup trend for Spring Summer 2017 whether you go the natural look or indulge in off-the-charts creativity inspired by Fashion Week designers and those oh so cool runway models. Clean, naked skin highlighted by cheek and lip shades flattering to every skin tone ruled the natural look. Unexpected glitter and dead-of-summer goth took us to the other makeup extreme. The bottom line: sheer bronzers continue to rule spring and summer makeup.

Natural

Au naturale was the look that dominated the runways. Blumarine offered up bronzed dewy skin for summer. Sunkiss your cheeks and eyes with a sweep of bronzer to bring a sheen to your complexion. Pale pastels that flatter every complexion ruled at several designers. Jasper Conran sent models down the runway with apricot blush on cheeks and matching peachy lip stain.

Pretty in pink was a favorite with a swath of designers. Cheekbones were highlighted with shimmering sugar-pink and eyes were slicked with silver eyeliner at Asli Polat. Fenty X Puma By Rihanna was all about the pink with plenty of cotton candy blusher on cheeks and feathery false lashes framing eyes. Leonard Paris matched pretty pink cheeks with color coordinated lips.

The no-makeup look returned once more to Chloe where clean skin and a hint of coffee-toned kohl around the eyes to natural to a new high. The boyish brow was a hit at John Galliano with brows brushed up to give finish that was full and feathery.

MAC makeup artists took the exaggerated cat eye down a notch to kitten level by drawing a small half-flick around the outer corners of the eyes on Eli Saab models. Try it at home with fluid eyeliner and a small angled brush.

Makeup a la Extreme

Colors not found in nature and glitter dominated the extreme end of the makeup spectrum. Acne models sported grey lipstick for spring summer, while DKNY jumped on the goth bandwagon with a cupid’s bow lip highlighted in the center of the mouth.

Aquamarine eyes brightened with a slivery base sent out a cool summer breeze at the Aigner show, while icy blue eyeshadow teamed up with salmon pink at Jill Stuart. Wunderkind models wore neon pink eyeliner, and Blugirl models matched sunset orange eyeshadow with tangerine nails.

Fendi was the designer who created Milan buzz by showing models with glitter lips teamed with bold graphic eyeliner.

A Touch of Retro

Retro looks were new again when Carolina Herrera paired bold lips and eyes. Strong smoky eyes and fiery red lipstick killed on the Herrera runway.

Balmain models sported kohl stained lids. Recreating the look at home is easy peasy when you streak and smear a black eye crayon over eyelids and then top with a little clear gloss or Vaseline. Natural loose hair heightened by a little salt spray at Giambatista Valli was enhanced by a clean-cut red lip paired with minimal makeup.

The Big Night Out

Rely on Giorgio Armani’s glossy skin, peachy lip and navy-tinted smoky eye for inspiration.
