Are teeth stains making you frown? Repeat after us: When life hands you lemons…keep them away from your pearly whites! According to research, acidic foods like citrus, soda and berries can leave your teeth more vulnerable to stains, because the acid left behind destroys tooth enamel and lets pigment penetrate deep into your chompers. (Which means, of course, that if you combine acidic foods with dark-colored foods—like spaghetti sauce, red wine and coffee—you’re in double-trouble!)
Instead, eat a piece of cheese with acidic food to keep your teeth sparkly-white and unstained. Studies suggest that the higher pH level in cheese may neutralize acid and safeguard your smile. Who knew that red wine and cheese platter was so dentist-approved!
