Kraft issued a voluntary recall of over 242,000 cases of macaroni and cheese due to “possible metal pieces,” the FDA reported this week.
The company received eight consumer complaints, prompting them to recall millions of boxes of the 7.25-ounce size of the Original flavor of boxed dinner with “Best When Used By” dates of September 18, 2015 through October 11, 2015, and the code “C2” directly below the date on each box. “C2” refers to the specific production line on which the affected products were made.
The potentially affected products were distributed in the U.S., Puerto Rico and some Caribbean and South American countries, the report added. Head over to the FDA website for more details if you think you might have affected product.
In October 2013, moms and health advocates petitioned Kraft to remove potentially harmful food dyes — Yellow 5 and 6 — from the classic mac ‘n’ cheese dinner in the U.S. and Canada. In the U.K., because of stricter food regulations, the color is acheived with natural ingredients like paprika and beta carotene, ABC News reported. It ended with Kraft announcing their newer products moving forward will be free of the controversial colorings (which are approved by the FDA, but some studies have shown could have a connection to ADHD in kids.)
