Rivera’s first mistake was sharing one of her “theories” in semi-agreement with a study by dermatologists who suggest its best to only shower once or twice every few days. “I have to say I have a theory about showering, (which) is that I think that white people shower a lot more than ethnics,” she said in the studio to sparse applause and laughter. “I feel like showering more than once a day or every day is such a white people thing,” she continued.
According to Fox News Latino, the 28-year-old actress added that she could make claims like that because her mother, who is half-black and half-Puerto Rican, showers once a day. Still, the “Glee” actress immediately tried to backpedal: “I can say that I am now married to a white man and he showers a lot. Like, a lot — two, three times a day. I’m like, ‘What are you doing?’” (Erm… what is her husband Ryan Dorsey doing in the shower three times a day?)
After the outrage poured in online from whites and “ethnics” alike, Rivera addressed the comment on the following episode of “The View.” “Yesterday we were talking about a study that says you’re supposed to shower once or twice every three days,” Rivera explained. “I had an opinion on it that was supposed to be a joke. Apparently it didn’t go over so well.”
She tweeted an attempt at a joke, “When you get out of the shower today, get a sense of humor. Love ya!”
