The inimitable Lupita Nyong’o has been named Glamour’s Woman of the Year and will grace the cover of the mag’s December issue, pictured below.
In her lovely feature interview, Lupita reveals herself to be completely down-to-earth and relatable, despite having won an Academy Award for “12 Years a Slave,” roles in “The Jungle Book” and “Star Wars: Episode VII,” the cover of People’s Most Beautiful issue, and a Lancôme sponsorship deal, all in rapid-fire succession this year.

Continuing the comments about the racist beauty standards at the Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon earlier this year, Nyong’o shared even more wisdom on how it has affected her:
“This is the message: that dark skin is unacceptable. I definitely wasn’t hearing this from my immediate family—my mother never said anything to that effect—but the voices from the television are usually much louder than the voices of your parents…Until I saw people who looked like me, doing the things I wanted to, I wasn’t so sure it was a possibility.”
All in all, Lupita Nygon’o is a truly worthy recipient of the Woman of the Year distinction. Congrats!
