There’s nothing better than when our favorite childhood show or movie gets a reboot. And what’s the next exciting reboot to come out, you ask? It’s none other than The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Talk about iconic.
The reboot will be everything we know and love about the original, with a bit of a twist. The reboot is actually inspired by a YouTube trailer that a fan made in 2019 that went viral. The trailer, made by Morgan Cooper, is a modern-day take on the Fresh Prince storyline and it’s seriously incredible. It’s so good, you’ve got to watch it for yourself:
The trailer was so good, it actually encouraged Will Smith to team up with Cooper to turn the film into the real deal. The reboot, called Bel-Air, has been in the works for over a year now, since the trailer went viral in 2019. The original series is currently available on HBO Max, but the reboot is being shopped to streamers, including HBO Max, Peacock, and Netflix.
While the original Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is hilarious and lighthearted, the reboot will touch at more serious topics. It’s still going to be funny, of course, but will cover more important matters, like what it means to be a Black man in America. You’ll still be able to tell it’s the Fresh Prince, of course, there’s just going to be some more serious moments, but it’s only going to make the series that much more important.
The producers of the original series, including Smith, Quincy Jones, Benny Medina, as well as the original creators, Andy & Susan Borowitz are all coming back as producers for the reboot. Will Smith has also been in contact with the original cast and recently reunited everyone on Snapchat.
We don’t know much else about the reboot yet, and production hasn’t officially started yet, but if the reboot is anything like the original, it’s definitely going to leave its mark on the world.
