Getting kids to eat their veggies is a thankless battle. [Insert plate-tossing and grimacing little faces here.] But some clever scientists may have finally cracked the case: Entice them with pictures! According to a study published yesterday in JAMA, a team of researchers in Minnesota increased vegetable consumption in a K-5 lunchroom, just by adding pictures to the lunch tray compartments that kids were using to dish up. Green been consumption jumped from 6.3 to 14.8 percent, and carrots spiked 11.6 to 36.8 percent! Apparently the idea that vegetables should go in those compartments influences little minds.
